Breast Lift: Projection, Proportion and Profile
Breast lift performed by skilled Bay Area plastic surgeon Dr. Alexander Ereso reverses sagging and restores a youthful profile by elevating the breasts on the chest.
The procedure can also help restore symmetry, when ligaments have relaxed to a greater extent in one breast compared to the other, and return low or downward-pointing nipples to a natural position. Below, Dr. Ereso discusses the geometry of breast lift, a procedure that refines proportions, highlights contours and sharpens the angles of projection.
Uplifting Choice
Breast lift is a popular choice among women who seek to restore a firm, attractive look to breasts that have begun to sag as a result of pregnancy, changes in weight or simply the passage of time. During the procedure, Dr. Ereso will make a vertical or horizontal incision, remove fat and skin, then tighten and reshape each breast. The size of the areola may be reduced, and in the case of larger breasts the nipple and areola may also be repositioned.
This more youthful positioning can create the appearance of larger volume, even though the breasts may have slightly decreased in size during the surgery. Some women choose to magnify this effect by adding implants to the procedure.
Breast lift is particularly effective at revitalizing breasts after pregnancy, as well as restoring the self-confidence a firmer profile inspires. In the absence of a new pregnancy or significant weight gain, your new breasts will retain this improved profile for many years. The smaller your breasts, the longer the “lift” will last. If in the future you find that your breasts have begun to sag, there is no risk in repeating the surgery.
Minimal Scarring
Breast lift is performed as an outpatient procedure, using general anesthesia or “twilight” IV sedation. Because it involves removal of skin, some scarring is inevitable. Dr. Ereso always uses the least invasive techniques, resulting in the shortest scars. For most breast lift procedures, there will be a vertical scar that reaches under the breast, and often a scar around each areola.
Your doctor will discuss with you steps you can take during the recovery process to ensure that your incisions heal quickly and cleanly, minimizing the appearance of scars.
